Satellite TV Review - DirecTV Versus Dish


Although these two major satellite TV companies may appear to be very similar, a closer look will reveal that there are some very important differences between them. Here is a satellite TV review of DirecTV and DISH. Programming DISH offers up to 320 television channels. DirecTV, on the other hand, has just 265 to offer. Both of these cable TV providers have a wide range of channels including foreign channels, movies, special interest programs, news, reality shows, variety shows, weather, and network broadcasts. DirecTV’s lowest rates are $29.99 per month which covers 140 channels as well as your local channels ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and CW. DISH has a program for just $24.95 which gives you 190 channels and also includes the same local channels as DirecTV. Movie Channels Both DirecTV and DISH have 31 movie channels including Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, and HBO. The fees for these movie channels starts at $13 per month for Starz, Showtime, and Cinemax and $16 per month for HBO. Streaming Video Services This is the latest advance in satellite TV technology, and allows you to watch TV shows and movies on your computer, TV, and other mobile devices. While DirecTV has just 10,000 streaming videos, DISH has 25,000. Pay-Per-View Options Pay-per-view lets you easily access and rent movies that have been recently-released without worrying about going to the video store or dealing with possible late fees. DirecTV offers 60 movies to rent every month at the cost of $3.99 per movie. DISH offers 75 movies to rent every month as well as sporting and other special events starting at $3.99 per feature. Music Services DirecTV comes with 9 Sonic Tap music channels as well as 56 XM satellite radio channels. DISH has a total of 52 music channels along with 64 Sirius XM satellite radio stations. Both of these satellite TV providers have their music services broadcast in digital audio which gives you a clear, full sound with commercially-free broadcasts. Equipment DirecTV installation is free and covers satellite TV systems in up to four different rooms with the purchase of any of their satellite TV packages. DISH also provides completely free installation of equipment when purchasing a satellite TV package, but they include installation in up to six rooms. Both DirecTV and DISH give you the option of upgrading to an HD receiver to get high-definition reception, a DVR receiver which allows you to record and store TV programs, and an HD/DVR receiver which combines the two.
